Description
Wild Stonecrop (Sedum ternatum), also known as woodland stonecrop, is a cute native groundcover that thrives in shaded woodlands and rocky slopes. Unlike many sedums that prefer full sun and dry conditions, this native species naturally grows in cooler, shaded habitats across eastern North America.
In spring, clusters of delicate white star-shaped flowers rise above its small leaves, creating a bright carpet of blooms that attract bees and other pollinators. The succulent foliage forms dense, low mats that spread slowly over time, making it an excellent native groundcover for woodland gardens.
Wild Stonecrop performs best in partial shade to full shade with well-drained soils and moderate moisture. It works beautifully along woodland edges, shaded rock gardens, and native plant landscapes where its tidy growth habit and early-season flowers add texture and seasonal interest.
