Description
Path Rush (Juncus tenuis), also known as slender rush or common path rush, is a tough and adaptable native plant often found along trails, roadsides, prairies, and open woodlands. True to its name, this species is well known for its ability to grow in compacted soils where many other plants struggle.
Its slender, upright stems form loose clumps that add fine texture to naturalized plantings. Though its small greenish-brown flower clusters are subtle, they provide ecological value by supporting beneficial insects and contributing to healthy soil systems.
Path Rush thrives in full sun to partial shade and tolerates a wide range of soil conditions, including compacted, disturbed, and moderately moist soils. Because of its durability and adaptability, it is frequently used in restoration projects, rain gardens, and naturalized landscapes where resilience is important.
