Description
Small Yellow Wild Indigo (Baptisia tinctoria), also known as yellow false indigo, is a tough native prairie plant valued for its bright yellow flowers and drought tolerance. This smaller Baptisia species forms bushy clumps of blue-green foliage that blend nicely into prairie gardens and naturalized plantings.
In late spring to early summer, upright stems produce clusters of bright yellow pea-like flowers that attract bees and other pollinators. After flowering, the plant develops small dark seed pods that add subtle texture and seasonal interest.
Small Yellow Wild Indigo thrives in full sun and prefers well-drained soils, especially sandy or rocky sites. Once established, it is very drought tolerant and requires little maintenance, making it a great choice for prairie restorations, pollinator gardens, and dry native landscapes.
