Description
Palm Sedge (Carex muskingumensis) is a striking native sedge with glossy green leaves arranged in a palm-like pattern along upright stems. Native to floodplain forests of the central and upper Midwest, it forms dense clumps that spread by rhizomes and self-seeding.
Thriving in moist, fertile soils and tolerant of both clay and seasonal flooding, Palm Sedge grows well in full sun to partial shade. It’s ideal for rain gardens, perennial beds, and naturalized landscapes—attracting butterflies and songbirds while resisting deer.
This low-maintenance perennial turns golden after frost, adding seasonal interest. Simply cut back in late winter to encourage fresh spring growth.
