Description
Dudley’s Rush (Juncus dudleyi), also known as Dudley’s rush, is a hardy native plant commonly found in prairies, meadows, and open woodlands throughout much of the Midwest and eastern North America. Its slender, upright stems form attractive clumps that blend naturally into prairie and restoration plantings.
Unlike grasses, rushes have round, smooth stems and subtle flower clusters that appear along the stems during the growing season. While its blooms are small and understated, the plant plays an important role in native ecosystems by stabilizing soil and supporting beneficial insects.
Dudley’s Rush adapts well to a range of soils but performs best in medium to moist conditions with full sun to partial shade. It is commonly used in prairie restorations, naturalized landscapes, and rain gardens where its durable growth habit and adaptability help support healthy native plant communities.
