Description
Fuzzy Wuzzy Sedge (Carex hirsutella), also known as Hairy Green Sedge, is a charming native perennial with fine, fuzzy leaves and green flower clusters. Growing 1 to 2 feet tall, it adds texture to woodland gardens, shaded borders, and other native plantings.
Fuzzy Wuzzy Sedge grows best in part shade and prefers well-drained soils with a slightly acidic to neutral pH. It tolerates a range of moisture conditions and is a cool-season grower, putting on most of its growth during the spring and fall. The tiny hairs covering its leaves give this sedge its memorable common name and add a soft texture to the foliage.
This adaptable sedge is an excellent low-maintenance choice for adding fine texture and year-round structure to shaded landscapes. Its understated green flower clusters blend easily with other native plants without overwhelming smaller spaces.
