Description
Wild Hyacinth (Camassia scilloides), also known as Atlantic camas, is a graceful native spring wildflower recognized for its tall spikes of star-shaped pale blue flowers. The blooms open gradually along the flowering stalk, creating an elegant display that adds height and color to spring landscapes.
Blooming in mid to late spring, Wild Hyacinth provides nectar and pollen for a variety of pollinators, including bees and butterflies. Its slender leaves emerge early in the season, followed by upright flower stems that sway gently above surrounding vegetation.
This adaptable species thrives in full sun to partial shade and grows well in medium to moist soils. It naturally occurs in prairies, open woodlands, and meadows, making it an excellent choice for prairie plantings, naturalized landscapes, and pollinator gardens.
