Description
Purple Poppy Mallow (Callirhoe involucrata), also known as winecups, spreads across the ground and fills sunny spaces with vibrant magenta blooms. The cup-shaped flowers feature deep rose-purple petals with bright white centers that stand out against the plant’s low, trailing foliage.
From late spring through summer, the plant continues to produce flowers that draw in bees and other pollinators. Its sprawling habit allows it to weave naturally between grasses and other wildflowers, creating a colorful ground layer in prairie plantings.
Purple Poppy Mallow grows best in full sun and prefers well-drained soils, especially sandy or rocky sites. Once established, it handles dry conditions easily. Plant it in prairie gardens, rock gardens, or sunny native plantings where its trailing stems and bold flowers can spread and brighten the landscape.
